Thank goodness it's a good deal cooler this morning.
I had the car booked in at Bleak Hall Motors to have it's MoT. This was at 1.45 and I wanted to make sure I was there in plenty of time. I don't like being late for things. It's not far from our home and I got there by 1.30. I had to wait in the waiting area and the mechanics soon had the car in the garage by 1.45 and it was finished by 2.30. Some work needs to be done to get an MoT certificate, some rubber cover had perished which covers some mechanical part in the driving mechanism. I had to book the car in for Friday morning to have this work completed. One of the brake shoes needs replacing at some point in the not-too distant future, but at the moment it's not serious and won't effect the MoT.
I learn from the mechanic at Bleak Hall Motors that the car isn't taxed. I say that because it's low emissions and economic on fuel it's exempt from tax but he says that it still needs registering, which I was totally unaware of. Nobody tells you this. You'd imagine you'd be informed of this in a letter or something. What with hospital appointments, getting Housing Benefits and other things organised since Carol was diagnosed with cancer, this has been more or less ignored. When I got home I told Carol and I had to find the letter from the D.V.L.A. (Driving and Vehicle Licensing Agency) which came several weeks ago but I 'filed' somewhere but couldn't remember where I put it. I went on line and could have completed the transaction there but needed some number which I didn't have and then decided to ring the D.V.L.A. and was told the number required was on the Owner's Manual which Carol eventually found but then they needed an MoT certificate which I can't produce until after the work is done to the car on Friday once that work is completed and an up-to-date MoT certificate is produced and then I can ring back and sort the business out then. How complicated life can become if you let it. I think we need to sort out a better system to file all our important documents so this sort of thing doesn't happen again.
Well, with the car at last MoT'd we can get on with other things. Certainly one less thing to worry about.
