Further Obstructive Bureaucracy

Carol needed to order some of her medication, tramadol, oramorph and oxybutin. They aren't officially repeat medication. We thought we could go to Sainsbury's pharmacy (actually run by Lloyd's, but that's another story) and get them to phone to order. We left the list with the staff and went of round the store to do some shopping. We returned ten minutes later to be told that they wouldn't allow the order to go through unless a doctor spoke to Carol first. As far as I'm concerned this is just bureaucracy gone mad. What difference would it make? She needs the tramadol and the oramorph for intense pain which usually occurs during the night. We returned home and I then rang the surgery. A good 5-10 minute wait on the telephone and got through and told the person on the end that it was urgent. I was expecting to be told that a doctor would ring back, but it went through without to much hassle. I was quite insistent which also helped. I just hope that we get the order and that there's no further obstruction. It seems that the reception staff are causing so many problems which is totally out of hand. As I'm on the P.P.G. at Ashfield Medical Centre (Patients Participation Group) which meets regularly to provide feedback on how the surgery is run so I may go to a meeting and bring up the matter of difficulties regarding getting appointments and medications.
